| Cultural events. Sopot annually hosts
14 international festivals celebrating music, film, theatre and
other arts. Some, like the Sopot Song Festival, have been running
for the past 50 years and have featured some of the world’s
greatest entertainers. The Sopot Theatre festival attracts groups
from all over Europe and beyond. Sopot has a permanent Philharmonic
Orchestra and a choir. There are 3 cinemas and two theatres.
Sport events. The most important Prokom Open, annual tennis tournament,
with total prizes around $1m, attracts players ranked in the top
10 of the ATP ranking. There is also a pole vaulting competition,
which takes place on the Sopot pier, and brings together top international
pole-vaulters. There are numerous sailing regattas in windsurfing
(including World and and European Chiampionships), match racing
for maxi yachts. Beach volleyball tournaments are very popular as
are Bridge tournaments. Sopot’s basketball team Prokom Trefl,
is one of the best teams in Europe.
There is a casino in Sopot, and a dozen buzzing discos, night clubs,
jazz and blues venues. There are over 100 restaurants, 30 cafes,
and well over 20 pubs
